Success Stories » Accrued Paid Sick and Safe Days Act DC
Your city can learn from Washington, DC (and San Francisco).
The District of Columbia made history on March 4, 2008 and passed paid sick days legislation — the second of its kind in the country (following San Francisco’s successful campaign in 2006)!
It guarantees workers paid time away from work to recover from an illness or care for a sick child — and ensures that workers dealing with domestic violence can take paid time off for court appearances or to seek necessary services. The National Partnership worked closely with the DC Paid Sick and Safe Days Coalition and the DC Economic Justice Center on this local victory, and we continue fighting for federal paid sick days legislation.
