The new health insurance Web portal is a precursor to the Health Insurance Exchanges that will be up and running starting in 2014, as a result of the health care reform law. This new national website helps you find detailed information about your health insurance coverage options, including standardized information about benefits, provider networks, and costs. It helps you make apples to apples comparisons about your health care coverage choices. A basic version of the Web portal will be launched on July 1, and a second more detailed iteration will be released in October once the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has had more time to collect information from states and insurers.
The following two comment letters were sent to HHS from consumer groups to stress the importance of ensuring that the Web portal provides meaningful and comprehensive information to consumers.
