Ariz. Lawmaker Introduces Fetal Tissue Restrictions Bill

February 3, 2016 — A bill (SB 1474) introduced by state Sen. Nancy Barto (R) would bar abortion providers from selling or transferring fetal tissue for research purposes, AP/AZ Family reports.

Jodi Liggett, a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Arizona, said while the affiliate does not transfer fetal tissue for research, "We ... along with all the other Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country, do support research." She added, "It's vital. I think the Legislature is likely to hear from the scientific community that this bill is overbroad and ill-advised because there has been life-saving research based on fetal tissue" (Christie, AP/AZ Family, 2/2).
