"With New PrEP Services Planned Parenthood Again Shows How Vital It Is to LGBTs," Steve Williams, Care2: A Los Angeles Planned Parenthood in December 2015 announced that about 20 of its clinics would join 27 other clinics across the United States to offer Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) treatments to help block HIV transmission, Williams writes. He notes, "This comes in addition to all the other services Planned Parenthood offers," which include "providing gynecological exams, cancer screenings, [sexually transmitted infection] testing and treatment, birth control, ... as counseling and education, and abortion services." According to Williams, "Planned Parenthood has made several attempts to raise awareness of its sexual health services, asking communities to stand with it during these difficult times." He praises the LGBT-rights organizations that supported Planned Parenthood last year when federal lawmakers tried to defund the organization, and he calls on the LGBT community to again "take the lead in advocating for and defending Planned Parenthood by saying that any closure of its services would come as a direct assault to LGBT health and HIV/AIDS prevention efforts" (Williams, Care2, 12/26/15).
