Mont. House Advances Antiabortion-Rights Health Insurance Bill

April 13, 2015 — The Montana House has voted to advance a bill (SB 349) that would require insurers offering a plan with abortion coverage to also offer a plan without abortion coverage, the AP/CBS Seattle reports (Baumann, AP/CBS Seattle, 4/10).

The state House on Saturday voted 54-42 to endorse the measure on the third reading of the bill. The measure, after being amended by the state House, now returns to the state Senate, which advanced a previous version of the bill in February (SB 349 bill actions, 4/13).

According to state Rep. Ellie Hill (D), no insurers support the measure. Hill said such antiabortion-rights measures "continue to get more creative," noting that insurers are not required to address other procedures, such as vasectomies, in a similar manner (AP/CBS Seattle, 4/10).
