"Crisis Pregnancy Center Attacks College Student for Criticizing Its Tactics: 'Put On Your Big Girl Panties,'" Tara Culp-Ressler, Center for American Progress' "ThinkProgress": A pro-choice activist at St. Olaf College in Minnesota wrote a letter to his student paper to "warn his fellow students that the [crisis pregnancy center] in their own town wasn't actually an unbiased source of medical information" and does not "offer abortion referrals, doesn't employ medical professionals, and will actively try to dissuade young women from choosing to end a pregnancy," Culp-Ressler writes. The activist suggested that students who want a full range of reproductive health information "consider traveling to the nearest Planned Parenthood clinic, which is 30 minutes away," she notes. The CPC's director emailed the activist in response, telling him that he should "[p]ut on [his] big girl panties" and "drop out of school and ask for a refund" because his letter was "ignorant, uninformed, unethical and would not be considered a reliable resource by any professor." NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Executive Director Linnea House said the director's response displays "a lack of compassion and professionalism," adding, "If she is willing to write down her juvenile thoughts to someone, what is she saying to young women and men who don't know that she is not a medical professional?" (Culp-Ressler, "ThinkProgress," Center for American Progress, 12/9).
