Ariz. Draft Abortion Regulations Impose New Requirements on Abortion Providers

November 27, 2013 — Arizona health officials have drafted new rules regulating abortion clinics, as required under a 2012 state law (HB 2036), the AP/Sacramento Bee reports.

The new rules require that a physician with hospital admitting privileges is present in a clinic while a woman undergoes a medication or surgical abortion. The physician must remain at the clinic until the woman is ready to leave the recovery room. The rules also specify follow-up care for abortion patients.

The Arizona Department of Health Services is accepting public comments on the draft rules. DHS Director Will Humble said the final version should be approved by early summer (AP/Sacramento Bee, 11/26).
