Wis. Assembly Approves 'Choose Life' License Plates After Republicans Drop Compromise Plan

November 18, 2013 — Wisconsin's Assembly last week approved legislation (AB 206) that would create "Choose Life" license plates and funnel proceeds from the plates to an antiabortion-rights organization, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Following long, heated debate on issues such as voter ID laws, Assembly members voted 54-39 to approve the license plate bill.

Assembly Majority Leader Bill Kramer (R) said Republicans abandoned a compromise plan on how the state should issue specialized plates because of a tweet by state Rep. Chris Taylor (D) that asked whether the GOP was willing to debate the issues.

The bill now heads to the Republican-controlled Senate (Marley, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 11/15).
