Proposed Rule in Ala. Would Make More Physicians Register as Abortion Providers

October 8, 2013 — A proposed rule by the Alabama Department of Health could require more physicians in the state to register as abortion providers, AP/WTOK reports.

Under the proposed rule, doctors who perform 10 or more abortions per month -- or more than 100 per year -- would have to register as abortion providers. The current standard requires physicians to register if they perform 30 or more abortions during any two-month period in a calendar year.

A public hearing on the proposed rule is scheduled for Oct. 24 in Montgomery (AP/WTOK, 10/6).
