"Five States Where Recent Attacks on Abortion are Already Threatening Women's Access to Health Care," Tara Culp-Ressler, Center for American Progress' "ThinkProgress": Culp-Ressler outlines how legislation targeting abortion clinics has already compromised abortion access in five states. For example, Texas legislators recently approved a "package of stringent abortion restrictions" (HB2) that has clinics "bracing for widespread closures" and abortion providers leaving the state because "their employment status is so uncertain." Meanwhile, clinics in North Carolina are facing new restrictions (SB 353), as well as state health department investigations that are "suspending their licenses for minor infractions that didn't lead to suspensions in the past." A recently approved Ohio budget (HB 59) has already closed one clinic in the state and threatens another, Culp-Ressler noted. She also discusses how Planned Parenthood has been forced to consolidate two health centers in Colorado, as it fights renewed "personhood" initiatives, and how two clinics in Wisconsin face closure under "stringent new abortion clinic restrictions" (SB 206) that have been temporarily blocked (Culp-Ressler, "ThinkProgress," Center for American Progress, 8/19).
