Two Nebraska Planned Parenthood Clinics To Provide Access to On-Site Adoption Services

July 26, 2012 — Planned Parenthood of the Heartland now will offer on-site adoption services at two Nebraska clinics through a partnership with an adoption agency, the Omaha World-Herald reports.

Adoption professionals from the Avalon Center will have office hours at PPH health centers in Omaha and Lincoln and provide a 24-hour hotline for individuals and families interested in adoption. The center has partnered with PPH since 2004. PPH previously has provided patients with information on adoption, parenting and abortion but had to refer clients to an outside organization to discuss details of the adoption process.

Melissa Grant, regional director of health services for PPH, said the partnership will allow PPH to take clients all the way through the adoption process. "It (is) helpful to have someone right here on site who could take that next step," Grant said.

Julie Schmit-Albin, executive director of Nebraska Right to Life, said the idea of providing adoption counseling in the same clinics where abortion care is provided seemed "incongruous" (Anderson, Omaha World-Herald, 7/25).
