Editorial Condemns 'Muzzling' of Mich. Lawmakers

June 20, 2012 — A Detroit Free Press editorial asks, "Did it never occur to Michigan's Republican legislative leaders that muzzling two Democratic state lawmakers might serve to amplify their voices rather than stifle them?"

The issue created such an outcry that it overshadowed other big events in the state last week, including Gov. Rick Snyder's (R) "historic agreement" to build a bridge between Detroit and Canada, the editorial notes.

Michigan's "campaign to reposition itself as a progressive global competitor has been set back yet again by the legislative majority's jackassery," the editorial adds (Detroit Free Press, 6/19).
