Ariz. Senate Approves Planned Parenthood Funding Bill

April 16, 2012 — The Arizona Senate on Thursday gave preliminary approval to a House-approved bill that would bar Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding that flows through the state for health services unrelated to abortion, AP/KTAR reports.

Supporters of the bill argued it is needed to block indirect funding for organizations that provide abortion care. Opponents of the measure said it could prevent thousands of low-income women from obtaining preventive health care, particularly those in rural areas (AP/KTAR, 4/12).
