September 25, 2015 — Three abortion-rights activists have launched a now-viral social media campaign encouraging participants to share their abortion stories, AFP/Yahoo! Health reports.
Amelia Bonow, Kimberly Morrison and Lindy West started "#ShoutYourAbortion" to coincide with the House votes on bills that would restrict abortion care and Planned Parenthood funding.
Bonow posted her own story and tagged it on Facebook. "I had an abortion at Planned Parenthood last year and it was a great experience," Bonow said in an interview with AFP. She added, "Not only am I not ashamed, but I know I'm incredibly lucky to have access to this choice and we need to keep it that way."
Meanwhile, West said on Twitter, "I set up #ShoutYourAbortion because I am not sorry and I will not whisper."
According to AFP/Yahoo! Health, web analytics sites show that tens of thousands of women have participated in the campaign (AFP/Yahoo! Health, 9/22).
