N.Y. Bill Would Protect Contraceptive Coverage

June 5, 2014 — A New York Senate committee on Tuesday unanimously advanced a bill (S 6578) that would prohibit employers from denying reproductive health coverage in employee health plans, the AP/Sacramento Bee reports.

The measure, known as the "Boss Bill," now advances to its first reading before the full Senate.

State Sen. Liz Krueger (D), the bill's sponsor, said it is necessary to close a loophole in a state anti-discrimination law. She added that the bill is needed regardless of an upcoming Supreme Court decision on the federal contraceptive coverage rules (AP/Sacramento Bee, 6/4).
