Republicans Continue Push for Vote on 20-Week Abortion Ban

June 3, 2014 — House Republicans in a letter Monday urged Senate leaders to allow a vote on a bill (S 1670) that would ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, The Hill reports.

It is not likely that the letter, spearheaded by Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) and signed by more than 100 House members, will lead to action in the Senate, according to The Hill.

Republicans want a vote on the measure to coincide with the anniversary of the conviction of illegal abortion provider Kermit Gosnell.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), the bill's sponsor, has touted it to distinguish himself from six challengers he is facing in a primary next week (Viebeck, The Hill, 6/2).
