January 7, 2014 — Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus has delayed the start of the party's annual winter meeting so he and other RNC members can attend the annual antiabortion-rights March for Life on Jan. 22, the Washington Times reports.
The rally is held each year in Washington, D.C., to coincide with the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
Priebus also arranged for RNC to bus RNC members to and from the march if they wish to attend. According to the Times, Priebus organized the meeting delay and bus after learning that about 20 RNC members planned to hire and share the cost of a bus for transportation to the rally.
Priebus explained his decision in an email to the Times, writing, "This is a core principle of our party. It was natural for me to support our members and our principles" (Hallow, Washington Times, 1/5).
